Edo period (1615-1868), includes four tea caddies (chaire): the first, 18th century, stoneware, Tanba ware with iron glaze and ivory lid (3 1/16 in., 3 15/16 in. diameter), the second, 18th or 19th century, stoneware with Seto ware (2 7/16 in., diameter 2 3/4 in.), the third, 18th or 19th century, stoneware, Seto ware, with tea stained ivory lid (2 1/4 in., 2 15/16 in. diameter), the fourth, 18th or 19th century, stoneware, Seto ware, with ivory lid (2 3/8, 2 11/16 in. diameter).

Sold to benefit the Yale University Art Gallery collection

Crack to ivory lid and nicks to rim of Tanba ware caddy; hairline with possible repair and restoration to Seto ware caddy without lid.
