Approximately (200) photo cards, presenting views and well-known monuments of Europe, soldiers, weapons, the effects of war on the landscape, and more; the majority from Chuck Abbott's "Overseas War Views," numbered in the lower left corner, and with "©Abbott" and dated 1919 in the lower right corner; with some duplicates.
Each photo card 2 3/4 x 3 1/2 in.
Charles (Chuck) Henry Abbott (1894-1973), a West Coast native, was drafted into the Army in 1917. He served with the 23rd Engineers, and took photographs both during and after WWI. Chuck later produced sets of these photos and sold them when he moved to New York and established Chas. H. Abbott Photography. He went on to have a variety of careers in numerous states, including selling exotic birds, running a dance hall, owning a coffee shop, and more. Abbott eventually returned to photography, documenting the rise of the mall in America and taking photos for
Arizona Highways magazine, before retiring with his second wife in Santa Cruz, California.
Overall good condition, with some general age including toning, slight curl to sheets, and several nicks/spots; a few with some heavier wear; approximately two on paper rather than card stock.
