Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, circa 1950, painted canvas over wire construction.

Length 31 in.

From the hunting rig and collection of Sunny Briggs.
Kroghie Andresen sold them for the Briggs family in 2016.

Haywood was arguably the finest maker of canvas over wire decoys from North Carolina. Sunny Briggs purchased this swan and five others from Manie Haywood when he was twelve years old for $4.50 each. He hunted them until 1969. Manie Haywood, in the last year of his life, taught Sunny how to re-canvas the decoys. Sunny recalls purchasing the tacks from Fowler Store in Elizabeth City.

Re-canvased by Briggs and Haywood in 1969, paint chipping on the head.
