A Japanese Black Lacquer Suzuribako Writing Box

Taisho era (1912-1926) or Showa period (1926-1989), a black lacquer suzuribako (writing box) hand painted to the cover with Hotei surrounded by boys, inside the box a silver water dropper above an inkstone, to the right is an open space with a brush.
