The front is engraved "National Horse Show / The Lewis E. Waring Memorial Challenge Trophy / Donated By / Mrs. David Wagstaff / To Be Won Three Times By The Same Owner For Permanent Possession / Hunter Any Weight, Amateur to Ride."

The verso lists the winners from 1952-1956 including Miss Peggy Augustus featured three times, the trophy retired by Waiting Home in 1956.

Waiting Home was the most acclaimed horse Peggy Augustus rode during her competitive years. The chestnut Thoroughbred excelled in hunter shows, where horses are judged on manners, temperament, movement, and the elegance of their jumping style. With Augustus in the saddle, Waiting Home secured the championship at the National Horse Show three times in the 1950s, earning permanent possession of The Lewis E. Waring Memorial Challenge Trophy. Over the course of their partnership, the pair dominated the hunter circuit, winning numerous titles, and in one remarkable year, retiring five separate challenge trophies.

A few scattered dents to the body, minor warping to the foot, a dent to the lid and minor warping to the interior lid rim, the lid does not sit perfectly flush.
