Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji period (1868-1912), 19th century, includes two lovely Satsuma pieces, the first a square shaped Satsuma bowl hand painted to interior garland of hanging jewels from chrysanthemum blossoms, the interior well with image of figures at leisure in a riverside pavilion, exterior with alternating fan and lobed vignettes containing flying aspara goddess figures and scenes of groups gathered in outdoor landscapes, patterned molded bottom rim above short foot, with three marks to underside that have been rubbed and are no longer legible, comes together with wooden
tomobako box (2 3/4 x 6 x 6 in.)(two hairline cracks to rim at lower left corner; three marks to underside discolored and writing indiscernible), and the second, a four sided sake bottle with elaborate textile and brocade patterning decoration to neck, each of the four sides with different detailed scenes of warriors and nature, especially nice is the side with monkeys picking persimmons (10 1/4 x 4 x 4 in.)(some rubbing with loss to gilt around the rim.)
