Collection of Michael and Ingrid Kelly, Worldwide Gallery Antiques, Fredericksburg, Virginia From the personal collection of antique gallery owners Michael and Ingrid Kelly who owned Worldwide Gallery Antiques, dealing with antiques for over sixty-five years, retiring to Fredericksburg, Virginia, where they filled their own residence with Asian and Belle Epoch fine arts and antiques.
James Lord Bowes (1834-1899) was a collector of Japanese art over three decades in England. He published widely on Japanese art including an 1886 book on Japanese enamels in his collection in which the current dish on offer is mentioned.
In 1890 he opened the Bowes Museum of Japanese Art Work in Liverpool, which closed in 1900. His collection was then sold at auction by Branch & Leete of Manchester over nine days in May 1901.
Good estate condition; a few minute areas of enamel loss and area of addition to foot rim from possible display element; three old paper labels to underside.
