Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Duck, North Carolina, circa 1910, carved and painted wood, published on page 276 of Gunnin' Birds by Kroghie Andresen.

Length 10.75 in.

From the Personal Collection of Mr. Kroghie Andresen Charlotte, North Carolina

Purchased in 1984 from Lloyd Griffith.
Former collection of Donal O'Brien. O'Brien collected this decoy in the Long Island area of New York in the 1950s.

Wright's family members estimate that he made and sold from 300 to 500 decoys during his lifetime and sold them commercially for fifty cents each. He was an exceptional carpenter and carved his decoys like he made his boats, with wide sterns and flowing lines. Little did he know that his decoys would be highly coveted by collectors on an international level. This is one of the few Alvirah Wright decoys in original paint known to exist.

Original paint, working repair to the neck, wear and chipping to the edge of the tail.
