Churches Island, North Carolina, circa 1940s, carved and painted wood, published on page 157 of Gunnin' Birds by Kroghie Andresen and pages 36 and 37 of Art Ducko produced by the North Carolina Museum of History.

From the Personal Collection of Mr. Kroghie Andresen Charlotte, North Carolina

Purchased from Yates Barbour, a retired wildlife biologist from Elizabeth City. on January 3, 1990. Dr. Y.M. Barbour purchased twelve decoys from Ned Burgess in 1945. He became Burgess`s personal physician. He hunted these decoys until 1951. The decoys were stored in a flour barrel in the orchard house of the family farm from 1954 to 1987.
Exhibited at the North Carolina Museum of History in 2008.

The Burgess black ducks have their own special style and are extremely rare. The olive green cheek patch on the side of the head sets this decoy apart from others.
