Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Meiji period (1868-1912), black silk satin embroidered with silk thread in natural colors of cream, tan, and brown, each of the four panels with large scale images of birds and flowers of the four seasons, very finely worked stitching that give depth and fine detail to the birds, flora and fauna, as they boldly stand out from the black background, presented under glass in period black and gilt wood frames with dimpled top corners, backs of frames lined with fabric.
Frame dimensions (each) 68 x 26 in.
All with scattered tears to fabric, none of the tears interfere or damage the embroidery; one panel with loss to lower section; some discoloration dots unclear if they reach the fabric or are just present to interior glass service; each panel with holes, some with metal hardware still attached, to sides of frame from past mounting; not examined outside of the frames.
