Winton Thompson (NC, 1917-2023), Wood Duck

Thompson was born and raised in Goldsboro, North Carolina but joined the Coast Guard at the age of seventeen and was stationed in Norfolk and guided during his spare time. During World War II, he had a distinguished war time record piloting a Higgins Amphibious Landing Craft in the invasion of northern Africa and Normandy.
