Brasenose College, Oxford, Trophy Racing Oar Dated 1886

The wooden oar's spoon paddle is painted with gilt lettering over black and commemorates the school's 1886 "Head of the River" victories. The names and weights of nine stalwart oarsmen are recorded here, however they may be from a later team.

Splits at the oar's tip have been repaired with a fitted copper strip; the commemorative painting on the oar is in overall very good shape; small scuffs from use are present as expected.
