A Rare Early American Silver Dog Nose Spoon, Mark of Cornelius Wynkoop

New York City, circa 1722-1740, the stem struck twice with maker's mark "WK/C" within a heart-shaped reserve, dog nose shaped handle monogrammed "W / I I".

Cornelius Wynkoop was the son of New York colonial silversmith Benjamin Wynkoop (1673-1751). He was born in 1701 and apprenticed with his father from 1715, succeeding his father's shop. He worked from 1722-1740 as a silversmith in New York City.
