John Menapace was a North Carolina-based photographer known for his finely composed black-and-white images that explored form, light, and abstraction. A key figure in the development of fine art photography in the American South, he helped establish a serious photographic tradition in the region through both his work and teaching. His photographs are held in major collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh.
