Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Elizabeth City, North Carolina, circa 1900, painted cast iron.

Length 15.5 in.

The Sanders Foundry in Elizabeth City would make custom decoys for discerning clients and this appears to be the case with this unique brant. Clients could bring a wooden decoy and have a pattern made from it. There was a one time charge for the pattern but the foundry could cast orders in any quantity. The orders were generally from 12 to 36 iron decoys. This unique brant was made in the style of a Hatteras brant decoy. It was found in a Bodie Island hunting rig.

Original paint worn to iron, corrosion to the surface, tip of the bill is broken off.
