Early 20th century, a large carved white jade panel with two Chinese sage figures in a mountain landscape surrounded by pine trees and stylized clouds is inset into cover of the box, the rim and body of the box is silver with incised decoration of the four flowers often referred to as "The Four Gentlemen" in Chinese art: bamboo, orchid, plum, and chrysanthemum, appears unmarked.

2 1/2 x 3 x 4 5/8 in.

The plum, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum are known as the four gentlemen in Chinese art and represent the highly prized virtues of humility, purity, righteousness, and perseverance.

Good estate condition, rubbing to the silver plating.
