Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Churches Island, North Carolina, circa 1930, carved and painted wood.
Rufus Roberts made several stands of very attractive canvasbacks and redheads. He made these decoys mainly in the 1930s when he was operating the Roberts Brothers Lodge. The lodge burned to the ground in 1935. Many of his decoys were lost and reportedly, Rufus never recovered. His decoys today are rare and highly sought after.
Original paint worn to bare wood in places.
