Each 42 x 25 x 19 in., Seat height 18 1/4 in.
Purchased in Hong Kong.
This style of chair became known as an Official's Hat Chair because of its resemblance to the wing-like brimmed hats worn by early government officials in China. Further symbolic qualities of the chair include how the stretchers are placed in a three-tier arrangement,
bubugao (step higher) representing career advancement. Additionally, the fact that when someone sits to receive their guest in this chair, they sit higher and with erect posture, appearing tall and dignified.
Very good condition; back splat with some finish inconsistency.
