Churches Island, North Carolina, circa 1930, carved and painted wood, published on page 160 of Gunnin' Birds by Kroghie Andresen.

Length 10.5 in.

From the hunting stand of Frank Carter of Coinjock, North Carolina.

Frak Carter, a Coinjock hunter, had a decoy stand that included over 75 Ned Burgess coots. They can be identified by their straight tails and bluish tint over paint. Net weights were used as ballast weights on the smaller examples and all have paint on them. The small examples such as this decoy are the most rare.
