Meiji period (1868-1912), a patinated bronze cast figure of Jurojin holding a scroll of calligraphy in one hand and a painting brush in the other, seated wearing loose robes and a hat, his sage face looks aged and he has a long beard and mustache, with a long inscription to the underside dated to the 9th month of Meiji 8 (1875).

9 1/2 x 8 x 5 1/2 in.

Jurojin is the Japanese god of longevity, wisdom, and immortality. He is one of the Seven Gods of Fortune (Shichifukujin) in Japanese mythology.

Good estate condition; scattered rubbing with wear and spots of discoloration to the bronze, especially to scroll, hat, and edges of the underside; lower edge of scroll has come loose.
