Meiji period (1868-1912), box crafted with a striking burl wood, giving it a marbled organic appearance, brass fittings and corners, patinated with dark spots from age, the front panel features a large brass kanji character for longevity in openwork within a square frame, with an iron handle on the top of the box, underside with an inscription in Japanese.

10 3/4 x 12 x 5 1/2 in.

Some tarnish to brass mounts; separation to old break and repair to mount on door; unable to open at time of evaluation.
