Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Meiji period (1868-1912), late 19th century, large charger with sky blue enamel ground populated with very finely crafted details and shading of a bird in mid-flight in front of tree branches with pink and white cherry blossoms, to the left a spiderweb attaches to a broken branch, to the right what appears to be a net awaiting the bird, with an ornate art nouveau border, underside with blue enamel.

18 in. diameter

Collection of Michael and Ingrid Kelly, Worldwide Gallery Antiques, Fredericksburg, Virginia

The shading and coloring of the bird and tree branches on this cloisonne charger are outstanding. Likewise, the details of the spiderweb and net give it even more originality.

Good estate condition; some light lines to enamels on edge of foot rim; a drilled hole in the foot rim with ring for hanging; some enamel firing marks to underside of foot.
