Circa 1920-1940, painted cast iron, the first a "Trick Dog" bank, originally patented by Shepard Hardware in 1888, stamped "MADE IN USA" to underside (7 1/4 x 8 3/4 x 3 1/2 in.); the second a "Monkey Bank", featuring an organ grinder and pet monkey, stamped "208" to the underside (7 3/4 x 8 3/4 x 3 1/8 in.), to use either bank: deposit coin in animal's mouth, depress the lever on the side and the animal will spring forward to deposit the coin in the bank.
From a Prominent Collector, Aiken, South Carolina Both bank mechanisms working at time of evaluation; possible small areas of later paint touch up to both; loss to chain for monkey toy bank.
