Guangxu period (1875-1908), rectangular in shape, yellow ground glazed porcelain hand-painted with a garden of blooming chrysanthemums, raised up on four shaped feet, four character Tihedian zhi seal mark in iron red
to the underside surrounded by kiln spurs marks.

6 x 8 x 6 3/4 in., with stand 1 1/4 in.

From a Prominent Collector, Aiken, South Carolina

During the Empress Dowager Cixi’s tenure as Regent to her son, Emperor Tongzhi, she mostly resided in the six palaces located in the northwestern sector of the Forbidden City, one of which being the Tihedian (Hall of Manifest Harmony). Special porcelains were commissioned by the Empress Dowager and produced specifically for several of these palaces from the Tongzhi or early Guangxu period, many of which bearing the name of their destination, as is the case of the present lot.
