From the Collection of a Gentleman, St. Petersburg, Florida Zev Daniel Harris, later known simply as Zev, was an American artist recognized for his imaginative abstract and surrealist paintings, sculptures, and experimental architectural projects. Born Daniel Harris in New York City, he studied at the Masters Institute of the Roerich Museum, the National Academy of Design, and New York University, where he later taught. His work gained early recognition when it was included in the influential 1944 exhibition Abstract & Surrealist Art in America at the San Francisco Museum of Art. Known for his whimsical and visionary approach, Harris also pursued unconventional creative endeavors, including the construction of the sculptural structure “Crazy Crescent” in Big Sur, California. He later spent much of his life working in Europe, continuing to produce imaginative works until his death in Rome in 1987.
