William Dodge first came to Asheville in 1919 to recover from injuries sustained in World War I. His occupational therapist and future wife, Margaret Wheeler Robinson, taught him the rudiments of silversmithing while he was recovering. After a brief northern sojourn, the Dodges returned to Asheville and opened Asheville Silvercraft in 1923. His workshop's mission statement announced that it would create work “of no transient style, but based upon the fundamentals of beauty, good proportion, beauty of materials and honest craftsmanship."
Light surface scratches to the well, small dent.
