Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Rodanthe, North Carolina, circa 1920, carved and painted wood, rigmate published on page 345 of
Gunnin' Birds by Kroghie Andresen.
Length 20 in.
From the Personal Collection of Philip and Susan Harvey. The Neil Midgett brants are the only decoys he is credited with carving. He maintained a large stand of decoys when he was running the Sand Ridge Lodge just north of Rodanthe, and most were carved by other makers. His decoy style is very similar to the brant decoys carved by neighbor, St. Clair Midgett, but his paint applications are more elaborate and inspired by Elmer Crowell.
Original paint with light gunning wear, hit by shot on the right side.
