From an Important Memphis Collector, Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Ref. Memphis Furniture Milano, 1982, figure 5.

Acquired from the preeminent Memphis dealer Keith Johnson of Urban Architecture Inc.

Among the first authorized distributors of Memphis Milano and Studio Alchimia in the United States, Director Keith Johnson’s discerning eye and esoteric expertise have positioned Urban Architecture as a trusted voice within the contemporary art and design world.

Now based in Tinton Falls, NJ, the gallery operates as both a private showroom and an intimate art consultancy—a sanctuary where the works of seminal designers and visionary artists are presented for study, dialogue, and acquisition.

Note the images of the 1982 Memphis poster are not included with this lot, but used for reference.

Marco Zanini met Ettore Sottsass in 1975 and soon after he worked in his practice. In 1981 Marco, along with Ettore Sottsass, Barbara Radice, Michele De Lucchi, Aldo Cibic, and Matteo Thun, were founding members of Memphis. Marco would continue to show his work at all of the Memphis exhibitions. He designed numerous colorful objects of handblown glass; even before his Memphis period, Marco designed the "Cassiopea" vase in 1980, which is a precursor to the famed design aesthetic.

Good estate condition; the marble fitter rim to the pedestal with some minor edge chips (not visible when assembled); the marble top is loose set on the pedestal.
