Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Qing dynasty (1644-1912), late 19th century, porcelain hand-painted in rich enamels with shaped reserves populated with phoenix and peonies, exterior turquoise ground, patterned bands below rim and above foot, with later carved wood reticulated covers featuring scrolling tendrils and coin motifs.

8 in., 5 3/4 in. diameter

Chinese porcelain made for the Straits or Peranakan market was produced mainly in Jingdezhen for Southeast Asian Chinese communities. Known for vivid famille rose enamels and bold floral or phoenix designs, these wares reflect Peranakan tastes, blending Chinese symbolism with local Malay and colonial influences.

One with hairline crack wrapping from interior base to exterior base with associated fleabites visible to exterior; the other with hairlines to underside; both jars with minor gilt rubbing and a few small glaze skips; small break with small loss to finial on one cover, the other with nicks to underside.
