From the Collection of David and Vidabeth Bensen, collected during the 1960s and 1980s while living in Japan Clifton Karhu was an American born in Minnesota, but drew his inspiration from Kyoto and its charming scenery, where he lived with his wife the second half of his life. His skilled woodblock prints capture traditional Kyoto landmarks and landscapes in vibrant color with bold use of black outline, still retaining the Japanese spirit with attention to season and weather to give them a surreal signature appearance.
