Ocracoke, North Carolina, circa 1900, carved and painted wood, published on the book cover and pages 111,115, and 116 of
Shorebird Decoys of North Carolina by Kroghie Andresen.
Length 8.5 in.
From the Personal Collection of Philip and Susan Harvey. This rare beach robin is painted in fall plumage. Ocracoke was very popular with outside sportsmen due to the large number of shorebirds which frequented the island. Beach robins, also known as Red Knots, were a favorite target. To meet the sportsmen's demands, Gary Bragg carved and maintained multiple shorebird stands. Most of them did not survive the rigors of hunting.
Original paint, age checks on the bottom of the body, minor wear to the tip of the bill.
