Alexander Viazmensky is a Russian watercolor artist based in St. Petersburg. After working for five years as an electrical engineer, he committed to his art practice in 1976 and went on to complete graduate studies at the Graphic Design School and the Leningrad Academy of Arts. He is known for his highly detailed botanical watercolors, particularly life-size depictions of mushrooms and other fungi. His work is held in museum, scientific, and private collections internationally. Over a career spanning several decades, Viazmensky has exhibited widely, taught botanical art workshops in Russia and the United States, and contributed to the recognition of mycological illustration as a serious artistic and scientific discipline, while continuing to focus on watercolor as his primary medium.
