Meiji or Taisho period, early 20th century, a baluster-form vase decorated in polychrome cloisonné enamels with silver wire of phoenix and floral motifs reserved against a brown nashiji ground, the shoulder and neck with bands of stylized blossoms and scrolling ornament, Ando workshop mark to the underside, presented together with an inscribed tomobako storage box.

Vase 7 3/8 x 6 3/4 in. diameter; box 10 1/4 x 8 1/4 x 8 1/4 in.

Area of restoration and cracks to neck; small area of restoration to interior rim; small area of old adhesive residue to shoulder; box with scuffs to whole and warping to lid.
