Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Unique stencil in colors on handmade paper kite, circa 2009, pencil signed by Toledo lower right, produced by Arte Papel Vista Hermosa, San Agustín Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico and with their inkstamp to verso, in custom framing.

Kite 28 1/2 x 21 1/2 in.; Frame dimensions 36 x 30 in.

Francisco Toledo’s handmade kites reflect his deep engagement with Oaxacan craft traditions and his lifelong exploration of animals, myth, and metamorphosis. Constructed from lightweight materials such as paper and bamboo supports, these works transform a vernacular, communal object into a poetic surface for graphic experimentation, often featuring bats, insects, and hybrid creatures rendered in bold line and earthy pigments.

Excellent condition with some natural inconsistencies to paper; not examined out of frame.
