Gifted to Virginia Ford (1914-2001) of Asheboro, North Carolina circa 1937. By descent through the Ford family, most recently in North Palm Beach, Florida Bayard Wootten (1875–1959) was a pioneering female photographer known for capturing the people, landscapes, and culture of North Carolina and the American South. She co-founded the Wootten-Moulton Studios in Chapel Hill, which became renowned for its portraiture and commercial photography during the early 20th century. Through her artistry and entrepreneurial spirit, Wootten helped shape the visual record of the region’s history and identity.
