Late Qing dynasty or early Republic period, the first of square form decorated on a black ground with brightly enameled with archaic items embellished with seal script, the interior fitted with a divided compartment, the second of rectangular form on short feet, worked in turquoise-ground diaper pattern and centered with a dragon chasing a flaming pearl amid cloud scrolls and above waves.
Larger 2 1/2 x 5 5/8 x 5 5/8 in.; smaller 2 1/8 x 5 x 2 1/2 in.
The larger with some light denting, wear to enamel, crack to one side, cracks to underside; the smaller with light wear to enamel.
