A. R. Penck, born Ralf Winkler in Dresden, Germany, was a major German Neo-Expressionist painter, sculptor, and printmaker known for his bold, symbolic visual language. Working in East Germany under a restrictive political regime, he adopted pseudonyms, including A. R. Penck, to avoid censorship and developed a distinctive style influenced by primitive art, graffiti, and pictographic systems. His work often features stick-like figures, geometric forms, and signs that resemble codes or diagrams.

After facing increasing pressure from authorities, Penck was expelled from East Germany in 1980 and relocated to the West, where his career gained international prominence. He became associated with the Neo-Expressionist movement alongside artists such as Georg Baselitz and Jörg Immendorff. In addition to painting, Penck produced sculptures, prints, and music. His work has been widely exhibited and is held in major museum collections worldwide.

Very good condition, not examined outside the frame.
