Meiji period (1868-1912), a finely cast pair of patinated bronze covered vessels of baluster form, each decorated in relief with birds perched among flowering branches above lappet borders, the body is flanked with stylized archaistic handles, the domed covers are surmounted by finely modeled shishi foo lion finials, raised on elaborate pierced and carved pedestal bases with scrolling foliate ornament.

Each 18 1/2 x 9 1/2 x 7 in.

Some later soldering to rim of one; general rubbing and wear to surface consistent with age.
