Republic period (1912-1949), includes a set in a larger hardwood box fitted with brass hardware, the front cover incised with two Chinese characters and MADE IN CHINA below, the cover lifts upwards to reveal five drawers containing 140 patterned tiles, 12 blank tiles, and numerous counters (6 1/4 x 9 1/4 x 6 1/2 in.)(missing a handle at the top; some lifting to brass mounts; some wear to wood and a few stress cracks), and a set in a smaller hardwood box fitted with brass hardware, the front cover incised with two Chinese characters, the cover lifts upwards to reveal two drawers containing 116 patterned tiles, 4 blank tiles, and numerous counters (5 1/2 x 8 1/2 x 6 1/4 in.)(wear and discoloration to wood surface; hardware has darken with age and exposure).
