Chicago, Illinois, circa 1925, cast iron, steel, brass, and glass, each orb form with bail handle, with embossed company marks and patent date to the upper case, Corning blue colored glass to the interior, fitted with standard electric socket to the center.
10 x 9 1/2 x 9 1/2 in.
Used on steam and early diesel locomotives to communicate a train's status to train crews, blue reportedly on certain railroads (like the Norfolk & Western) to indicate the rear of the train, or to designate the locomotive as a helper/pusher.
Some later paint and paint losses; surface staining; smaller glass portals with areas of surface wear; not tested.
