Ray Parker was an American abstract painter, printmaker, and educator associated with the second generation of the New York School. After studying at the University of Iowa, he moved to New York City in the late 1940s, where he evolved from Abstract Expressionism to a distinctive style characterized by boldly colored biomorphic forms, simplified shapes, and intuitive compositions that explored the emotional power of color.

In addition to painting, Parker created a significant body of prints that extended his abstract vision across multiple media. An influential teacher throughout his career, he taught at institutions including Hunter College and the University of Massachusetts. Today, his work is represented in the collections of major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
