The vanity merges the opulent aesthetics of Art Deco and Old Hollywood glamour with Graves’ signature architectural style. Its form mimics the stepped profile of a Manhattan skyscraper. Like many designs from the Memphis collective, it is famous for its deliberate irony: the elaborate, luxurious piece is actually constructed from inexpensive everyday materials like medium-density fiberboard (MDF) coated in maple veneer. Only about 30 to 40 units were ever produced, making it a highly coveted collector's item.
