A Chinese Lacquered Wooden Sculpture of an Immortal

Circa 1900, possibly earlier, carved wood with paper covering decorated in polychrome lacquer and gilt, the immortal depicted seated on a recumbent horse, his robes with raised and gilt detail, face inset with natural hair beard, not marked.

25 1/4 x 20 x 10 in.; figure 20 1/4 x 15 x 7 1/2 in.; base 5 x 20 x 10 in.

Some areas of lacquer losses; age cracks, and scuffs/nicks; base with some areas of repair to the underside.
