Ateliers Hugo in Aix-en-Provence, France, was founded in 1933 by François Hugo and is now run by his grandson, Nicolas Hugo. The workshop is especially known for its close collaboration with Pablo Picasso, producing gold and silver plates, dishes, sculptures, medallions, earrings, and other jewelry based directly on Picasso’s designs. This Picasso partnership helped establish artists’ jewelry as a serious artistic medium and positioned Ateliers Hugo as a key translator of many artists' visions into wearable pieces.
