Koay Soo Kau was a Penang-born artist and educator known particularly for his innovative work in batik painting. Beginning in the 1960s, he developed a distinctive style inspired by Malaysian village life, cultural traditions, and the natural world, later exploring abstraction and oil painting. A significant figure in Penang’s art community, Koay exhibited widely and founded Galeri Seni Mutiara to promote Malaysian art.
