Early 18th century, mahogany, mahogany veneer, shaped crest rail with figured mahogany veneer, antique petit point upholstery featuring coat of arms, shaped arms terminating in serpent heads, shaped seat with inset cushion, molded seat rail, front cabriole legs are relief carved with shell knees on hairy paw feet, rear cabriole pad feet.

A high quality carved and upholstered pair of chairs in the school of Thomas Chippendale or Paul Saunders.

Upholstery is old but likely later with some minor repairs (horse hair interior); some minor insect damage; three of the rear legs with cut and repair (but original); some edge losses to rear pad feet; all four knuckles with old but later metal bracing to undersides; one serpent knuckle with break and repair; both in stable, usable condition with some surface spotting.
