Reverse painting on glass, early 19th century, unsigned, presented in a later 19th century gilt composition frame with brass gallery plaque reading "PAINTED ON GLASS BY UNKNOWN CHINESE ARTIST / IMPORTED IN 1816 BY THOMAS RICE, BOSTON / PRESENTED IN 1964 BY / COLONEL GEORGE G. DUNN, USAF / NEW HOPE, PA."
Sight size 23 1/8 x 19 in.; Frame dimensions 31 1/4 x 27 1/4 in.
A typed label affixed to the verso records that the painting descended through the family of Thomas Rice, a Boston importer. It was later acquired by Colonel George G. Dunn, Jr., of New Hope, Pennsylvania, from Rice's great-granddaughter, Mrs. John Hill of Rutland, Vermont. In 1964, Colonel Dunn presented the painting to the Freedoms Foundation.
