Carroll Sargent Tyson was an American painter and collector. Born in Philadelphia, he studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Royal Academy in Munich, Germany, and exhibited regularly at the Pennsylvania Academy from 1905 to 1950. Tyson spent much of each year in Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert Island, Maine, where the landscape and wildlife provided important subjects for his art. His work was also exhibited at institutions including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, and Corcoran Gallery of Art. Over the course of his career, Tyson received numerous honors, including awards from the Pennsylvania Academy, National Academy of Design, and Panama-Pacific International Exposition, as well as the Chevalier Cross of the French Legion of Honor.
