Qing dynasty (1644-1912), 19th century, rock crystal quartz with smokey inclusions, a mirror pair, each featuring a boy riding atop a buffalo holding reins in their hand, presented resting upon fitted carved wood stands.

Each DOA 2 1/4 x 3 x 1 in., Carving only 1 5/8 x 2 3/4 x 3/4 in.

The theme of a boy riding a water buffalo is a classic pastoral motif in Chinese art, appearing in painting, jade, and ceramics from the Song dynasty onward. It evokes rustic contentment and harmony between man and beast, standing apart from the formality of court life.

Overall very good condition; one with break and loss to front foot.
