Republic period (1912–1949), porcelain finely painted in famille rose enamels with gilt highlights, the domed cover decorated with elegant ladies in a lush scholar's garden surrounding a noble gentleman seated at a desk reading, with an inscription and red seal above, the bowl decorated to one side with a noble gentleman on horseback accompanied by three ethereal ladies floating above on swirling clouds, the reverse with a further figural scene, inscription, and red seal, flanked by gilt handles suspending shaped metal rings; the underside of the cover with an additional painted figural scene and red wax seal, underside of the bowl with a four character iron red mark.
